Time runs out on Raiders

October 13, 2009

Glasgow, KY — In a season with it’s ups and downs, Warren East finished off their first season under Coach Darren Waldo with a positive feeling.

Earlier in the year Warren Central dominated East 8-1, with Ricky Nuñez scoring the first goal of that game.

Monday night’s match was a much closer affair.  Central got on the board first after 25 minutes of even play.  Nuñez answered back with less than 10 minutes left in the half on Chris Herrera’s assist.

The second half of play was littered with missed opportunities for East with several near miss shots that just couldn’t find the net.  Central however found the net twice more, making the end result 3-1.

East ends the season with a 8-11-1 scoring 60 goals and giving up 71.

Raiders lose final pair of home games

October 2, 2009

Bowling Green, KY – Warren East’s hope of recording a winning record for the 2009 season took a disappointing nose dive following the Raiders final two games at home.

Tuesday night the Russellville Panthers avenged their 8-1 loss from earlier in the season beating the Raiders 3-2.  Scoring for the Raiders were seniors Daniel Lovos and Ricky Nuñez.

Thursday night visiting Todd County Central continued to roll on in their impressive season.  The Raiders found themselves down 4-1 at half time despite a goal from Nuñez.  The last 15 minutes of the half saw the Raiders continually pressing on offense but not a goal could be scored.  During the second half Todd County put a pair of goals in to give them their final of 6.  Senior defender Colton Billhartz scored on a penalty kick to bring the final score 6-2.

The Raiders are now 8-9-1 on the season scoring 59 times and allowing 60 goals.  Saturday the Raiders will travel to Ohio County to finish out the regular season.

Warren East (7-7-1) travel to Monroe County Thursday to round out their district play.

East dominates in Russellville

8-1 win over Russellville

8-1 win over Russellville

Russellville, KY– The allure of Roy’s BBQ in the concession stand couldn’t distract the Raiders as they cruised to an 8-1 victory over the Panthers.

Chris Herrera found the back of the net early just 6 minutes into the match, Ricky Nunez got credit for the assist.  Nunez’s unassisted goal just 3 minutes later would be all the Raiders would need to take the victory.

Nunez scored his second goal of the night on a Daniel Lovos assist.  Lovos added the fourth goal in the seventeenth minute from Wes Bratcher.  Bratcher scored just 3 minutes into the second half on an assist by Alex Richey.

Richey continued the trend scoring next off a great cross from Nunez.  Herrera scored his second goal of the night unassisted 17 minutes into the second half to make it 7-0.

Diego Ortiz had his only slip up of the night 23 minutes into the second half on a bad hop on the uneven playing surface that brought the score to 7-1.  Lovos scored the final goal of the night with 4 minutes left in play on Nunez’s 3rd assist of the night.

Warren East improves to 7-6-1 on the season and faces Barren County on the road next Tuesday.  The Raiders will face Russellville again at home on the September 29th.
